Description Yaz Plus 28Tab is a combined oral contraceptive pill that also contains folic acid. Each pack contains 28 tablets: 24 active tablets containing ethinylestradiol (an estrogen) and drospirenone (a progestin), and 4 inert (placebo) tablets that also contain levomefolate calcium (a form of folic acid). Yaz Plus is primarily used to prevent pregnancy. The combination of ethinylestradiol and drospirenone works by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to hinder sperm movement, and altering the uterine lining to prevent implantation. The inclusion of levomefolate calcium is intended to supplement folic acid levels, which is particularly important for women who may become pregnant, as adequate folate intake can help prevent neural tube defects in the developing fetus. Yaz Plus may also be used to treat symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) and moderate acne in women who choose to use an oral contraceptive for contraception. Combined Oral Contraceptive with Folic Acid. Contains Ethinylestradiol and Drospirenone. Includes Levomefolate Calcium (Folic Acid). Prevents Pregnancy. May Help Treat PMDD Symptoms. May Help Treat Moderate Acne. 24 Active Tablets and 4 Placebo Tablets with Folic Acid. 28 Tablet Pack for a Monthly Cycle. Directions for Use: Take one tablet daily at the same time each day, starting with one of the active tablets (usually marked with the days of the week). Follow the arrows on the blister pack to take one tablet each day until all 24 active tablets are finished. Then, take one of the 4 inert (placebo) tablets each day for the next four days. A withdrawal bleed (similar to a period) should occur during the placebo tablet days. After you have taken all 28 tablets, start the next pack on the following day, even if your bleeding has not stopped. It is important to take the tablets in the correct order as indicated on the pack. Precautions: Oral contraceptives are effective but are associated with certain risks. It is important to discuss your medical history with your doctor before starting Yaz Plus, especially if you have a history of blood clots, heart disease, stroke, certain types of cancer, liver disease, or migraines with aura. Smoking significantly increases the risk of serious cardiovascular side effects from oral contraceptives, especially in women over 35 years old. Tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements, as some medications can interact with oral contraceptives and reduce their effectiveness or increase side effects. Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, breast tenderness, mood changes, and weight gain. More serious side effects, though rare, can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of a blood clot, such as severe leg pain, sudden chest pain, or difficulty breathing. Regular check-ups with your doctor are important while taking oral contraceptives. Yaz Plus does not protect against HIV infection (AIDS) and other sexually transmitted infections.
